My kids are sushi obsessed and making these bowls at home helps to satisfy that sushi craving without breaking the bank! Sushi bowls are a highly customizable dish that can be enjoyed by everyone.
The ingredients listed in this recipe are based upon the sushi bowls my family typically makes but can be easily customized to your family’s tastes.
Note: the sushi rice recipe used for our sushi bowls is still under construction as we have not yet figured out our favorite recipe. But typically sushi rice contains a mixture of rice wine vinegar, sugar, and salt that has been mixed into cooked short grain sushi rice. Alternatively, you can just use plain white or brown rice.
Ingredients
General Directions:
- Cook 2 cups of short grain sushi rice with 2 cups of water.
- Bake salmon and eel as desired. We tend to use a soy sauce based marinade for the salmon and cook the eel per package instructions.
- Cut carrot and cucumber into thin strips or grate.
- Cook edamame per package instructions. (Typically, boil for 5 minutes)
- Slice avocado.
- To make sushi rice, combine rice wine vinegar, sugar, and salt (official recipe under construction) in a small bowl. Pour mixture over rice and fold rice over itself to combine rice and mixture.
- Once everything has finished cooking, assemble bowls and enjoy!
