This recipe was inspired by our trip to Hawaii. My husband loves Loco Moco and we decided to find a version that was easy to make at home. I came across the recipe, Loco Moco Gravy Rice by Sheldon Simeon (Cook Real Hawai’i), which is a non-traditional version of the dish, and decided to give it a try. This recipe is an adapted and slightly modified version of the Loco Moco Gravy Rice.

Ingredients
General Directions:
- Cook 2 cups of white rice in a pot, rice cooker, or instant pot.
- In a large skillet, heat butter or oil over medium heat. Once melted (butter) or shimmering (oil), add onion and cook until softened and slightly translucent, about 4-5 minutes.
- Add the ground beef and garlic, and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally until browned. Break up the meat as you stir it.
- Add in the mushrooms and cook for a couple of minutes more.
- Sprinkle flour over top of beef, onion, and mushrooms. Stir to combine – flour will be fully absorbed.
- Pour in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce.
- Continue cooking until sauce thickens, forming a gravy-like sauce. Remove from heat.
- Serve over white rice and topped with an egg (cooked to preference**).
