These Halloween cookies are a fun festive twist on our favorite chocolate sugar cookie recipe. This recipe is an adapted and slightly modified version of Chocolate Sugar Cookies in The Perfect Cookie by America’s Test Kitchen.

Makes 24 cookies
Ingredients
General Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Add melted butter, brown sugar, vanilla, and salt to a bowl.
- Whisk to combine.
- Add eggs and whisk until smooth.
- Add flour, cocoa powder, baking soda + baking powder.
- Stir until just combined.
- Pour sprinkles into a shallow bowl or plate + granulated sugar into another shallow bowl or plate
- Line cookie sheet with parchment paper.
- Scoop cookie dough and roll into balls.
- Dip 1 side in sugar and the other side in sprinkles.
- Place on cookie sheet with sprinkle side up.
- Grease bottom of small measuring cup and flatten cookies.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes.

Beginner:

2. Help to measure, cut, and melt butter using the microwave in small increments to prevent popping. Help to measure ingredients and pour into mixing bowl.
3. Whisk to combine, with help as needed to ensure thoroughly combined.
4. Crack eggs into separate bowl. Add to mixing bowl. Whisk to combine with help as needed.
5. Help to measure ingredients and add to bowl.
6. Stir to combine with help as needed.
7. Pour sprinkles and sugar into separate shallow dishes.
9. Help scoop cookie dough and roll into balls.
10. Dip cookies in sugar and sprinkles – may need help to dip in both rather than just sugar or sprinkles.
11. Place cookie on cookie sheet.
12. Help to flatten cookies.
Notes:
- Original recipe calls for 1 large egg + 1 egg yolk, but I just use 2 eggs and they turned out perfectly.
- Personally, I like to use an ice cream scoop to scoop out cookie dough to form dough balls.
- Since these are sugar cookies, the cookie dough balls are sticky in order to be rolled in sugar which helps the sprinkles stick. You can either roll the entire ball in Halloween sprinkles or dip the bottom half in sugar and top half in sprinkles.
