Hi there!
My name is Sara and I am a mom of 2 toddlers, a 3 year old son and 1 year old daughter.
I am a pediatric occupational therapist and worked for 8 years in an outpatient clinic with children aged 0-21 years old. My work had a heavy focus on fine motor skills and developmental milestones, but also included working on cooking skills (mostly with teenagers though).
I recently decided to make the difficult decision to step away from the traditional workforce in order to spend more time with my kids. I started taking over the cooking (my husband did it when we both worked full-time) and quickly discovered how chaotic cooking with a 1 year old and 3 year old hanging around can be (as I am sure many of you can relate to!). I found myself sticking my 3 year old in front of the TV more often than not in order to get some peace while cooking dinner.
I decided I wanted to start including both of my kids more in the kitchen and discovered that there aren’t many resources out there to help parents successfully include their kids, especially toddlers, with everyday type cooking. With a little bit of extra planning (and patience), I found cooking with my kids to be not just doable but also enjoyable. I was never much of a chef but always enjoyed baking. Once I started cooking with my kids, I found myself enjoying it more and wanting to try out new recipes with them.
Using my background in pediatric occupational therapy, I’ve broken down recipes and created resources for families to use to successfully cook with their toddlers and young kids that I hope you all find helpful!
