Fireworks!

This fireworks craft makes for an easy and fun 4th of July activity. Using glitter paint adds some extra sparkle to your toddler’s firework display. But be warned, this activity can get messy – especially with our littlest of toddlers!

Supplies:

  • Black construction paper
  • Toilet paper roll
  • Scissors
  • Paper plates
  • Glitter paint
  • Paint brush

Activity Instructions:

  1. Cut 1/4 inch strips into bottom 1/3 of toilet paper roll.
  2. Bend and fan out strips away from roll. Press it down on a flat surface.
  3. Place each paint color (recommend using 2-6 different colors) on a separate plate. Use paint brush to spread paint out around the plate
  4. Press toilet paper roll into paint and fully coat bottom of strips.
  5. Place toilet paper roll with paint onto black construction paper and press down.
  6. Complete steps 4+5 again with another color and place directly on top of 1st color.
  7. Complete steps 4-6 to complete additional fireworks on the page as many times as desired.

Toddler Instructions By Age:

  • 1-2 year olds: Provide hand over hand help to dip firework stamp in paint and then to place it on the paper. Allow sensory play with the paint but this will be messy
  • 2-3 year olds: Give verbal directions and physical demonstrations. Provide assistance as needed.
  • 3+ year olds: Give verbal directions and physical demonstration if needed. These older toddlers are likely to complete this activity without help.

Tips:

  1. Place newspaper or butcher paper under the construction paper to allow for firework strips to go off the paper.
