This wall coloring activity started when I read Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson with my toddlers. My son wanted to “be in his drawings” like Harold, so we put the paper on the wall. I highly recommend using a washable crayon or marker as your toddler will more than likely get some on the walls. Always test your coloring items “wash-ability” before giving it to your toddler.

Supplies:
- Construction or butcher paper
- Painters tape
- washable pencils, crayons or markers
Activity Instructions:
Use painters tape to attach construction or butcher paper to the wall. We like using butcher paper as a large strip can be taped up for both of my toddlers to color together. You can either draw a picture to have your toddler color in or let them use their imagination to run wild.
Toddler Instructions: All ages – give your toddler washable pencils, crayons or markers and let them color the paper.
- 3+ year olds: start having your toddler try to color within the lines of a picture you draw on the paper.
